Kitchen design for aging in place in place functionality
Project Brief:
These homeowners wanted to update their holiday home for them to enjoy spending more of their retirement time. In particular they were concerned about functionality as they get older.

This renovation is a study in precise, user-centric kitchen planning, transforming what was an awkward space within a Lockwood home into a highly efficient culinary workshop. The core philosophy driving this design is an uncompromising commitment to functional flow, ergonomic storage, and low-maintenance performance, all executed with a sleek, minimalist aesthetic. By situating the main prep sink in the island, the traditional work triangle (sink, stove, fridge) is compressed and prioritized. This allows multiple people to work simultaneously. The massive, seamless Ceasarstone island bench serves as a singular, unbroken workspace for plating, mixing, and casual social interaction. The most critical functional upgrade is the exhaustive use of wide, deep drawers for lower cabinetry. This choice completely eliminates the ergonomic strain of bending and reaching into the back of dark cupboards. Smart pull out functionality also abounds in the cabinetry. Plus the Neff Hide n Slide oven ensure easy use. In this kitchen every item is fully accessible and visible with a single smooth pull. The choice of long, linear stainless-steel pull handles provides a reliable, secure grip, essential for heavy kitchenware. The materials selected are all designed to performed under pressure making this kitchen not only functional but durable too.
Designer’s Note: The real success of this design is that its beauty is a direct result of its utility. By focusing purely on what makes the space work better, we achieved a design that feels incredibly clean and powerful.
The result is an easy to use kitchen that makes prep, cooking and cleaning a breeze with specific zones and smart pull outs.
